The Du Fu Thatched Cottage was the former residence in Chengdu of Du Fu, the great Tang Dynasty poet, who lived here for nearly four years and composed more than 240 poems.Covering nearly 300 mu, the thatched cottage is a sacred site in the history of Chinese literature. The garden features verdant bamboo, red walls, and meandering streams, with structures such as the Grand Hall, the Hall of Poetry and History, the Ministry of Works Shrine, and the Grand Elegance Hall nestled within the lush landscape. The path flanked by red walls and bamboo is one of Chengdu’s most photogenic spots.

If you love classical Chinese poetry, Du Fu’s Grass Hall is a must-visit pilgrimage site. The famous lines, “If only I had ten thousand spacious houses to shelter all the impoverished scholars under heaven and bring joy to their faces,” were written right here.
