ZhangjiajieTransportation Guide

There is no subway in Zhangjiajie. Zhangjiajie West Station is a high-speed rail station (about a 15-minute drive to the city center). The trip from the city center to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area takes about 40 minutes (the scenic area shuttle bus costs about 15 yuan). The Tianmen Mountain Cable Car runs directly from the city center to the mountaintop. Inside the scenic area, get around via shuttle buses (free) and walking—averaging 20,000 steps per day. Wulingyuan and Tianmen Mountain are quite far apart, so plan your visits separately.

The starting fare for taxis in Zhangjiajie is 6 yuan. Short trips within the city center cost 10–15 yuan. A taxi ride from Zhangjiajie West Station to Wulingyuan costs about 60–80 yuan. A ride from the city center to the Tianmen Mountain Cable Car costs about 10 yuan. Be wary of restaurants and tour guides recommended by taxi drivers, as they may receive kickbacks. Using Didi for rides is more transparent.

Huahe International Airport (DYG): No subway service. A taxi to the city center costs about 20–30 yuan (15 minutes), and to Wulingyuan about 100–120 yuan (about 50 minutes). The airport shuttle to the city center costs 15 yuan. The airport is right next to the city center—very close.

Zhangjiajie has one high-speed rail station: Zhangjiajie West Station (Zhangji-Huai/Qian-Zhang-Chang High-Speed Rail). A taxi ride to the city center takes 15 minutes and costs 15 yuan, while a ride to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area takes 40 minutes and costs 60–80 yuan. The high-speed rail journey from Changsha to Zhangjiajie takes about 3 hours.
