Nanluoguxiang has turned into a street lined with tourist souvenirs. Head to the nearby Beiluoguxiang, Gulou East Street, and Fangjia Hutong to experience the real hutongs.
Explore the hutongs on a shared bike
The hutong area isn’t too big or too small, so riding a shared bike lets you cover more ground. Be careful not to ride too fast in the narrow alleys.
Common Mistakes
❌ Visiting only Nanluoguxiang
Thinking Nanluoguxiang is all there is to the hutongs.
Consequence: All I saw were tourists and cheap goods from Yiwu. The real Beijing hutongs are in the alleys nearby.
