  • Chengdu buses also accept foreign contactless cards
  • Taking the express train to Dujiangyan is faster than taking a bus

Taxis & Didi

Base fare: 8 yuan (2 km). Didi is integrated into Alipay. Short trips within the city cost 15–25 yuan. Taxis in Chengdu are cheap but traffic is heavy during rush hour. Restaurants recommended by taxi drivers are usually reliable (Chengdu locals are very honest when it comes to food), but it’s still a good idea to double-check on Dianping.

Practical Advice

  • Using Didi is more reliable than hailing a cab on the street
  • Traffic in the city center is heavy during rush hour; the subway is faster
  • Taxis within the city are very affordable

Airport Shuttle Guide

Shuangliu Airport (CTU): Take Metro Line 10 directly to the city center (about 30 minutes); a taxi ride costs 50–80 yuan. Tianfu Airport (TFU): Take Metro Line 18 (about 50–60 minutes); a taxi ride costs 150–200 yuan. Tianfu Airport is very far from the city center—about 60 kilometers away—so choose Shuangliu whenever possible.

Practical Advice

  • If you have a choice, choose Shuangliu Airport whenever possible
  • Allow at least 2 hours for the trip to Tianfu Airport

High-Speed Rail Guide

Chengdu has three high-speed rail stations. Chengdu East Station: The largest, serving the Chengdu–Chongqing, Chengdu–Xi’an, and Chengdu–Guiyang high-speed rail lines; take Line 2 into the city center (20 minutes). Chengdu South Station: Serving the Chengdu–Kunming and Chengdu–Guiyang lines; take Line 1 into the city center (15 minutes). Chengdu West Station: Serving the Chengdu–Ya’an line. From Xipu Station, take the express train to Dujiangyan (30 minutes, 10 yuan).

Practical Advice

  • Choose the station closest to the scenic area
