🏛️ Attraction Overview

The Temple of Heaven was the site where ancient Chinese emperors offered sacrifices to Heaven; it was built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1420). The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is one of China’s most famous structures—a circular wooden structure with a triple-layered blue glazed tile roof, built on a three-tiered white marble base. In the early morning, old Beijingers practice tai chi, sing traditional opera, and play chess in the park.

✨ Why It’s Worth a Visit

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the pinnacle of Chinese architecture. Get up early to visit the Temple of Heaven Park and experience Beijing’s morning exercise culture—Tai Chi, sword dancing, and calligraphy with water.

Practical Tips

Buy the combined ticket—don’t buy the park ticket

The combined ticket includes the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and the Echo Wall. A standard park ticket only grants access to the outer areas; you cannot enter the core buildings.

Go in the morning to watch their morning exercises.

The park opens at 6:00 a.m. If you arrive before 7:00 a.m., you’ll see hundreds of people practicing tai chi, sword dancing, and singing Peking Opera.

Common Mistakes

I bought a park ticket but not a combined ticket

To save money, buy only the 15-yuan park admission ticket.

Consequences: You can’t enter the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests or the Echo Wall—you’d have come all the way to Beijing for nothing.
